I grew up in a loving family whose motto was “We don’t run unless it is away from something!” Needless to say, many fried bologna sandwiches later and 60 pounds overweight, I reached a critical turning point and reluctantly tried exercise to lose weight. This was in the days of Richard Simmons with his dancing to the oldies weight-loss routine, so just imagine how many sweet dance moves it took to shed 60 pounds! In college, I discovered the joys of cycling and running and 20 years later I am still reaping the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle. My exercise routine has had many evolutions over the years but the key to my continued success with weight-loss maintenance is my consistency with a healthy diet (I struggle too!), choosing exercise that I enjoy, and surrounding myself with people who are leading a healthy lifestyle too. Gratefully, regular exercise and eating sensibly is just a given in my day now and actually feels normal. So whether I go for a vigorous trail run, a bike ride on rolling hills, take a challenging power yoga or weight lifting class, or hit the pool for laps, I am just truly happy to be moving my strong, healthy body.
I am a Registered Nurse with 13 years of critical care experience and am currently a nursing educator. I have seen firsthand the unfortunate and devastating consequences of unhealthy lifestyle choices in my patients; therefore, I know the importance of helping others when they finally reach their turning point. I am certified in CPR and Advance Cardiac Life Support and I am currently pursuing a group fitness certification through ACE. I enjoyed a great 2008 season participating in triathlons and l look forward to completely my first ½ Ironman Race in September 2009 with my training partner, WoW! founder April Williams. I have been married for 9 years to Robert, a wonderfully supportive husband and we are blessed with two beautiful children, Emma (7), and Beck (4).
